Litter-Robot Bags: What Should You Use? (2024)

Litter-Robot is the highest-rated self-cleaning litter box on the market because it is so good at what it does: automatically cleaning your cat’s waste so that it is out of sight (and out of smelling range). But what about when the waste drawer gets full? That’s where Litter-Robot bags come into play. Which Litter-Robot bags are best and why do we recommend custom-fit Litter-Robot liners? Keep reading to find out.

Reminder: How Litter-Robot works

When your cat exits Litter-Robot, a timer counts down, allowing the litter to clump before a clean cycle begins. Litter-Robot automatically separates your cat’s waste from the clean litter, depositing the clumps into a waste drawer below the unit.

The app or the unit control panel will indicate when the waste drawer is full. At that time, you just empty the drawer, replace the liner, and press the Reset button. It’s as easy as taking out the trash!

Are Litter-Robot bags required?

Although not required for the unit to function, it is highly recommended that you protect the Litter-Robot waste drawer from the deposited cat poop and urine clumps with a bag or liner. Not only will this make emptying the waste drawer a breeze, it’ll drastically cut down on odors and bacteria growth that result from the drawer coming in contact with waste.

Why custom-fit waste drawer liners are the best Litter-Robot bags

The best Litter-Robot bags for the waste drawer are our custom-fit waste drawer liners. Our waste drawer liners fit perfectly in the waste drawer of any Litter-Robot model. These waste bags include 9-11 gallons of usable capacity.

Wondering what these Litter-Robot bags are made of? The liners are constructed as follows: 69.75% linear low-density polyethylene, 25% high-density polyethylene, 1.25% biodegradable additive, 2% slip additive, and 2% anti-block additive.

Does Litter-Robot come with bags?

The Litter-Robot arrives with three of our custom-fit waste drawer liners. You can order more and subscribe to packs of 25, 50, or 100 Litter-Robot liners with monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly delivery options.

Alternative Litter-Robot bags

Our custom-fit Litter-Robot liners are not required for the waste drawer. You can also use 10- to 13-gallon kitchen trash bags or large plastic grocery bags. As long as it fits, you can use it! This is one advantage of using Litter-Robot as compared to other self-cleaning litter boxes on the market, which may require you to purchase special accessories.

How do you install Litter-Robot bags?

It’s easy! For Litter-Robot 3 (with or without Connect), simply pull out the waste drawer, unhook the edges of the liner, and dispose. Then, install a new waste drawer liner or trash bag by rolling the edges a few times and pushing them into the four tabs (keeping the bag taut at the back). View the Litter-Robot 3 Waste Drawer Liner Installation Video.

For Litter-Robot 4, pull out the drawer and dispose of the soiled liner. Open a new waste drawer liner or trash bag and wrap the edges over the rim of the waste drawer. Push the remainder of the bag into the bottom of the waste drawer. Check out the Litter-Robot 4 Waste Drawer Liner Installation Guide.

Tip: Make sure the bag does not come up past the top of the sides of the waste drawer.
